Get ready to return to 17th-century Japan! FX and Hulu are prepping not one but two more seasons of breakout drama Shōgun. The Disney-owned network announced that it is teaming with the estate of author James Clavell, who authored the novel on which Shōgun is based, to extend Shōgun for two additional seasons.

The company noted that both seasons are in development, meaning that a final two-season renewal depends on how the creative vision unfolds. This exciting news opens the door for Shōgun to explore a continuation of the captivating story beyond Clavell's original novel, leaving fans eager to see where the narrative takes them next.

But Shōgun's magic goes beyond its riveting plot. The series boasts exceptional production values, with costume designer Carlos Rosario's work being a major highlight. Rosario's costumes have earned widespread praise for their historical accuracy and incredible detail.

Over 2,300 costumes were crafted to reflect the wearer's social status and personality, effectively becoming storytelling devices in their own right. The evolution of characters like Toda Mariko (Anna Sawai) and John Blackthorne (Cosmo Jarvis) is subtly reflected through their changing attire.

Rosario's commitment to authenticity is impressive. He teamed up with historian Frederik Cryns, a renowned expert on Japanese history, to ensure cultural accuracy. Additionally, he worked closely with Hiroyuki Sanada, who championed cultural faithfulness in the costumes.

Creating the costumes for Shōgun was a monumental task. A dedicated team of about 125 people in Vancouver and another 250-300 people globally poured their talent into bringing Rosario's vision to life.

Shōgun's success lies in its combination of an engaging narrative, outstanding performances, and top-notch production values, especially the costume design. As we look forward to the upcoming seasons, we can expect to be further mesmerized by Carlos Rosario's masterful creations, which transport us directly into the vibrant world of Shōgun.

What do you love most about Shōgun? What are your hopes for the upcoming seasons? Share your thoughts and join the conversation with fellow fans.

Australia's richest person, mining magnate Gina Rinehart, is making waves (and not the good kind) after asking the National Gallery of Australia (NGA), to ditch a portrait of her from an exhibit.

This artwork, by award-winning Aboriginal artist Vincent Namatjira, is part of a bigger piece called 'Australia in Colour.' Apparently, Rinehart's not a huge fan of how she's portrayed – think surprised expression, missing jawline, and, well, let's just say her nose is getting more attention than usual.

The exhibit, which opened in March, features other big names like Queen Elizabeth II, rock legend Jimi Hendrix, and even some Aussie icons like Vincent Lingiari (an Aboriginal rights activist) and former Prime Minister Scott Morrison.

Rinehart, who runs her dad's massive mining company, Hancock Prospecting, reportedly went straight to the top dogs at the NGA to get the painting removed. But the NGA's all about sparking conversations with their art, and they're happy people are talking! ️

Meanwhile, the artist, Namatjira, says he paints folks who've made a big impact on Australia, for better or worse. He wants people to look at his art and think about these powerful figures, even if they don't love the way he portrays them.

So, what do you think? Is Rinehart overreacting, or does she have a right to dislike how she's depicted? Let's hear it in the comments!

The recent WNBA draft just got a whole lot more exciting with the arrival of Caitlin Clark, the record-breaking basketball phenom. This isn't just a win for fans; Clark is poised to redefine the WNBA's marketing landscape. Her transition from the Iowa Hawkeyes in NCAA basketball to the professional world has turned her into a hot commodity for brands and advertisers.

Beyond the Game: A New Era for Basketball

Clark's electrifying play and relatable personality make her an advertiser's dream. She's not just a star on the court; she's a cultural force ushering in a fresh wave for basketball. Her arrival in the WNBA coincides with a surge in viewership and attendance, further boosting her marketability. This strategic draft pick by the Indiana Fever capitalizes on Clark's immense popularity and potential to draw a wider audience to the league.

Brands Take Notice: The Clark Effect

Clark's impact extends far beyond the hardwood. Her Name, Image, and Likeness (NIL) valuation, a staggering $3.4 million, signifies her immense appeal. She's already a seasoned brand partner, having partnered with powerhouses like Nike, Gatorade, State Farm, Buick, and more. One notable collaboration is with investment firm Gainbridge, which aligns Clark with iconic female athletes like former tennis star Billie Jean King and former LPGA champion Annika Sörenstam.

Social Media Queen: Engaging the Next Generation

Clark's influence isn't limited to traditional advertising. She's a social media powerhouse. Her NIL deal with Gatorade saw their ‘You Can Too’ campaign become the brand's most-viewed social content, showcasing her ability to connect with a younger audience. Even her co-designed water bottle and towel with Gatorade sold out in a day, proving her immense marketing power. Imagine the possibilities for future campaigns featuring Clark's impressive skills and infectious personality. Interestingly, she's a big Taylor Swift fan – maybe a future collaboration is in the works?

A Win-Win for Fans and Advertisers: The Future is Bright

Caitlin Clark's arrival in the WNBA isn't just exciting for fans; it's a goldmine for advertisers. Her on-court dominance, charismatic personality, and social media prowess make her the ideal brand partner. As Clark's professional career unfolds, it will be fascinating to witness how she reshapes WNBA marketing and inspires a new generation of female athletes and fans. The WNBA draft may be over, but the “Caitlin Clark Effect” is just beginning.

Now that Caitlin Clark is officially a WNBA player, let's discuss! Here are some questions to get the conversation started:

    • What brands do you see partnering with Clark in the future?
    • How can the WNBA leverage her popularity to promote other amazing female athletes?
    • Are you more excited to see Clark's on-court dominance or her influence as a cultural icon?

Remember M3GAN, the AI doll who took the internet by storm last year? The star of the Blumhouse horror flick (same folks behind spooky hits like Get Out), M3GAN wasn't your average plaything. A genius scientist created her as a companion for her orphaned niece, but things went south when M3GAN's protective programming took a killer turn.

Well, guess what? She's back! But this time, instead of causing mayhem, she's here to creep out (and maybe impress) your friends as a life-sized doll.

This officially licensed doll by NECA is a whopping 55 inches tall, which means she's practically life-sized! She's got all the details you remember from the movie, from her creepy-cute outfit to her movable eyes. Although, unlike the movie version, her eyes won't be following you around the room (phew!).

    Neca_MeganDoll.jpg

Now, before you start freaking out about having a potentially murderous doll in your home, here's the good news: this M3GAN is strictly made for chills and thrills, not actual robotic rampages. She doesn't talk, move on her own, or possess any of the creepy AI abilities from the movie. Think of her as a supersized action figure, but way cooler (and maybe a little bit more unsettling).

So, is this life-sized M3GAN a must-have for horror movie fans?  If you've got the space (and the $500 price tag!), then sure, why not? Just be prepared to explain to your guests why you have a giant, slightly creepy doll chilling in your living room.

However, if the budget is a bit tight, you might want to wait for M3GAN 2.0 to unleash some cinematic mayhem next year.

Get ready for a trip down memory lane with the iconic toaster pastry in Jerry Seinfeld's new Netflix comedy, 'Unfrosted: The Pop-Tart Story.' Seinfeld steps behind the director's chair for this zany biopic, which chronicles the rivalry between Kellogg's and Post cereals that led to the invention of Pop-Tarts in 1960s Battle Creek, Michigan.

Hold on tight for a star-studded cast featuring Seinfeld himself as the head honcho at Kellogg's, alongside comedy powerhouses like Amy Schumer, Melissa McCarthy, Hugh Grant (voicing the one and only Tony the Tiger!), and more.

Seinfeld's signature wit is in full effect as the film explores the marketing genius, design choices, and cultural impact that made Pop-Tarts a breakfast (and beyond) phenomenon. 'Unfrosted' promises to be a "CRAZY GOOD" laugh riot that offers a unique perspective on the world of branding, exploring the genius behind the creation of a nostalgic throwback that's endured for generations.

As creatives, we can glean valuable insights from Pop-Tarts' enduring legacy. After all, how many breakfast foods can boast such a recognizable design, catchy slogans, and a flavor variety that would rival Willy Wonka's candy factory?

So, mark your calendars for May 3rd, 2024, the official release date for 'Unfrosted' on Netflix. This one is sure to spark conversation, ignite your creativity, and maybe even leave you craving a Pop-Tart (or two) and reminiscing about simpler times.

A beacon of hope for those living with incurable secondary breast cancer has arrived in London. The Breast Cancer Now charity, in collaboration with creative agency BMB, has launched a unique exhibition titled 'Gallery of Hope' at the Saatchi Gallery. This moving display utilizes a combination of photography and artificial intelligence to showcase the dreams and aspirations of participants.

    What Makes This Exhibition Special?

'Gallery of Hope' focuses on a community often overlooked: those diagnosed with incurable secondary breast cancer. While advancements in treatment offer hope, the disease is currently incurable. This exhibition aims to raise awareness of this reality while celebrating the lives of individuals living with it.

The Power of Portraits and AI

The heart of the exhibition lies in a series of portraits by renowned photographer Jillian Edelstein. These portraits capture the participants in their present moment. Alongside each photograph lies a powerful twist – an AI-generated image depicting a future scenario envisioned by the participant.

Imagine seeing yourself walking with your daughter on a beach in Japan, or celebrating a milestone birthday surrounded by loved ones. These AI-generated images offer a glimpse into the hopes and dreams that motivate those living with secondary breast cancer.

    GalleryOfHope.png

    Highlighting the Importance of Research

'Gallery of Hope' doesn't shy away from the harsh realities of secondary breast cancer. However, the exhibition's central message is one of hope and the importance of continued research. By showcasing the dreams and aspirations of participants, the exhibition emphasizes the need for more treatment options that can extend precious time for those living with the disease.

    Learn More and Get Involved

The 'Gallery of Hope' exhibition runs for two days, March 13th and 14th, 2024, at the Saatchi Gallery in London. However, the impact continues. An online gallery and social media campaign allows you to experience the stories and portraits beyond the physical exhibition.

This innovative exhibition serves as a powerful reminder of the human spirit and the ongoing fight against breast cancer. Let's continue to support research and raise awareness so that more dreams can become a reality.

As the 2024 Oscars approach, ‘Barbie’ has not only leaped from the toy aisle but also seized the hearts and awards chatter of viewers and critics alike. This live-action spectacle is more than just a game for children; it’s a visually breathtaking masterpiece that reinterprets the world of the iconic doll in a manner that is both playful and thought-provoking. Let's take a peek behind the curtain and explore the design elements that make 'Barbie' a contender for cinematic gold.

A Manufactured World of Magic: Production Design

Step into Barbie Land: Warner Bros. Studios Leavesden transformed into a vibrant dreamscape for filming, thanks to the meticulous work of production designer Sarah Greenwood. Inspired by the ‘Truman Show’s’ artificial world, director Greta Gerwig and Greenwood meticulously crafted a land bathed in an "authentically artificial" glow. Natural light is a rarity, only appearing when Barbie (played by Margot Robbie) ventures beyond the candy-colored confines.

Eagle-eyed viewers might spot some delightful Easter Eggs hidden within the hand-painted panoramas stretching over 250 feet. A subtle nod to Warner Bros. themselves resides alongside a painted Los Angeles, mirroring the iconic yellow brick road from 'The Wizard of Oz.' Speaking of Oz, keep an eye out for a movie theater showcasing 'Wizard of Oz' posters as Barbie cruises by.

But the color palette is where things get truly interesting. Shunning the starkness of black and white, the production design embraces a riot of color, perfectly encapsulating the vibrancy of Barbie's world.

    BarbieTheMovie_SetDesign.jpeg

A Dreamhouse Come True: Architectural Inspiration

Towering over 25 feet tall, the iconic Barbie Dreamhouses serve as a centerpiece within the film. Drawing inspiration from the mid-century modernism of Palm Springs, these dream homes pay homage to the classic Barbie playsets. Bringing these larger-than-life structures to life was a monumental task, requiring the expertise of hundreds of artists and designers.

Fashion Fit for a Plastic Princess: Costume Design

Jacqueline Durran, a two-time Oscar winner for Costume Design, brings her magic touch to Barbie's wardrobe. Drawing inspiration from Mattel's extensive archives, Durran meticulously recreates iconic looks spanning Barbie's history, from her very first swimsuit in 1959 to the most contemporary designs.

Some of the film's most memorable moments come alive through dazzling costumes. Think Barbie and Ken (Ryan Gosling) rocking out in their disco jumpsuits, or their eye-catching neon leotard sets as they navigate the "real world."

    BarbieCostume.png

The Power of Pink: A Color Story

It wouldn't be Barbie without a healthy dose of pink, and the film embraces this signature color with gusto. From the sets and costumes to the lighting, various shades of pink are thoughtfully incorporated to create a cohesive visual style. The color grading of the film was so impactful that it won the 2023 FilmLight Colour Awards, with Company 3’s Yvan Lucas receiving the award for the grading of a theatrical feature.

    barbieMovie.png

The Matrix Influence: A Playful Choice

Adding a layer of humor for fans of 'The Matrix,' the film incorporates a playful reference to the iconic scene where Neo chooses between the red pill and the blue pill. In 'Barbie,' this pivotal decision point is presented through a choice of footwear: a stiletto heel (staying in Barbieland) or a Birkenstock (venturing into the unknown).

As the Awards Season Heats Up...

As the awards season reaches its climax, many wonder: Will ‘Barbie’ win the coveted Oscar? The film has earned eight nominations, including for its impressive production design and costume design.

Do you think it deserves the ultimate prize? Did the creative and design elements of 'Barbie' capture your imagination? Let's discuss in the comments below!

First off, did you know that Pop-Tarts has an Instagram page? Yes, the breakfast pastry of our childhood has gone digital. And it’s not just about posting mouth-watering pictures of frosted pastries. They’re stirring up some serious buzz in the celebrity world.

Enter Taylor Swift, the pop sensation who’s been making waves not just with her music, but also with her baking skills. Rumor has it, Taylor Swift has been whipping up homemade Pop-Tarts for none other than her boyfriend, Travis Kelce, and the rest of the Kansas City Chiefs. Talk about a sweet touchdown!

But here’s where it gets interesting. Pop-Tarts caught wind of this and they want in on the action. They’ve publicly asked Taylor to release her recipe. And if she does, they’ve promised to double their donation to Harvesters, a local Feeding America partner food bank. Now that’s a win-win situation if I’ve ever seen one.

So, will Taylor share her secret recipe with the world? Will the Kansas City Chiefs be munching on more homemade Pop-Tarts in the future? Only time will tell.
