Target’s Pride Collection has taken flight with its unique bird figurines, causing a flutter in the market. These avian-themed items, part of the retail giant’s annual Pride Collection, have become an unexpected hit, selling out rapidly and creating a buzz across various social media platforms.

 

The collection, known for its vibrant rainbow-themed clothing and accessories, introduced two standout items this year: the Movie Star Featherly Bird Friend and the Beach Poolside Featherly Bird Friend. These stylish decorative bird figures, crafted from styrofoam and fabric, are designed to add a delightful accent to any shelf, mantel, or tabletop.

 

The Movie Star Featherly Bird Friend, in particular, pays homage to actor Tippi Hedren’s character from Alfred Hitchcock’s 1963 horror film "The Birds". This connection to queer culture, although not immediately apparent, has resonated with the LGBTQ+ community, contributing to the figurine’s popularity.

 

The demand for these Pride Birds has been so high that they are now hard to find in stores and completely sold out online. Resellers on eBay are even hawking the $5 bird figurine for as much as $41.99.

 

Target’s decision to include these unique featherly creations in their Pride Collection follows the backlash it received last year from conservative anti-LGBTQ+ groups, leading to a reduction in the prominence of Pride-themed merchandise in several states. Despite this, the Pride Birds have managed to capture the hearts of many, becoming a viral sensation.
