Marshy
Art lovers often gaze at a finished masterpiece, mesmerized by the final product. Most of the time, though, it’s about the journey. But if the artist has somehow forgotten to capture the process, well, there’s artificial intelligence, I guess. Paints-Undo, a new AI model developed by researcher Ilyasviel, takes a finished artwork as input and generates a simulated timelapse video, essentially reversing the artistic process and revealing the sequence of actions that might have led to the final piece. You feed the model a finished painting, and it generates a sequence that imagines the artist’s likely creative process. Art appreciators can utilize the tool to analyze the supposed creative thought process behind a drawing or painting. More than that, Paints-Undo supposedly serves as a bridge for future AI development. By studying the vast toolbox of human artistic techniques, Paints-Undo lays the groundwork for AI that can truly collaborate with human artists, not just mimic them. https://lllyasviel.github.io/pages/paints_undo/ https://boingboing.net/2024/07/11/ai-tool-generates-fake-painting-timelapses-lets-cat-out-of-bag.html https://gigazine.net/gsc_news/en/20240710-paints-undo/ https://www.reddit.com/r/StableDiffusion/comments/1dz2b9l/paintsundo_new_model_from_ilyasviel_given_a/ Images: lllyasviel / GitHub (Apache-2.0 License)
