When it comes to tech gadgets, we often hear about them “making a splash,” but in the case of Jared Brick's Apple Watch, it was more literal than usual. More than a year after taking an unplanned dive into the Caribbean, Brick’s trusty Apple Watch was plucked from the ocean, still ticking, thanks to Apple’s ‘Find My’ feature.

Jared Brick, an enthusiastic scuba diver, shared his remarkable story on YouTube. During a family vacation in June 2022, Brick and his son both donned new Apple Watches, appreciating their ability to stay connected even underwater. These devices, designed for everyday use, boast water resistance up to 50 meters, making them perfect for the duo’s underwater escapades.

One day, however, Brick’s underwater adventure took an unexpected turn. “I’m wearing it and poof, it’s gone, sliding off my wrist and into the water,” Brick recounted, reflecting on the moment his watch slipped away. Despite his best efforts to find it, the watch seemed lost to the ocean’s depths. Brick turned to Apple's Find My feature, marking the device as lost and holding onto a sliver of hope that it might resurface.

Fast forward to December 2023, and Brick received a surprising voicemail from a Caribbean resident. This Good Samaritan had discovered the Apple Watch and found Brick’s contact details displayed on the screen. Remarkably, the watch had survived its prolonged submersion and was still functional. The resident promptly sent the watch back to California, where Brick confirmed its authenticity and marvelled at its resilience.

Expressing his gratitude, Brick said, “So amazing, so big thank you to Jonathan in the Caribbean for finding it, contacting me, shipping it back to me, and for Apple for making such an amazing technology that works.”
