In a follow-up to an earlier recall notice, Toyota has unveiled a comprehensive plan to tackle a severe engine problem impacting over 100,000 Tundra and Lexus LX SUVs. This decisive action is in response to reports of engine failure due to manufacturing debris left inside the engine by Toyota.

The Problem

The core issue prompting the recall is the potential engine failure caused by debris left behind during the engine manufacturing process. This debris can lead to the engine knocking, running rough, or even failing to start altogether.

The Solution

To tackle this grave issue, Toyota has committed to replacing the entire engine in all affected vehicles. This all-encompassing solution ensures that the problem is permanently resolved and that owners can regain peace of mind on the road. Furthermore, during the engine replacement process, which is expected to last between 13 and 21 hours, Toyota will provide all affected customers with a complimentary loaner or rental car to ensure minimal disruption to their daily routines.

Affected Vehicles

The recall specifically targets gasoline-powered gasoline-powered 2022 and 2023 model year Toyota Tundra and Lexus LX SUVs. The recalled vehicles are equipped with twin-turbo 3.5-liter V-6 engines. Take note that other Tundra and Lexus LX models, along with the similar Sequoia model, are not currently part of this recall.

Next Steps for Tundra and Lexus LX Owners

Toyota will be reaching out to all affected owners directly to schedule a free engine replacement. In the meantime, owners who are experiencing any of the mentioned engine problems (knocking, rough running, starting issues) are advised to contact their nearest Toyota or Lexus dealership for immediate assistance. For more information, customers can contact Toyota customer service at 1-800-331-4331, or visit Toyota’s recall website.

Previous Recalls and Trust Maintenance

This engine replacement program follows a previous recall issued by Toyota in February for a separate transmission issue. While recalls are never ideal, Toyota’s proactive approach to resolving these problems demonstrates their commitment to vehicle safety and customer satisfaction.

This latest development serves as a reminder of the importance of staying informed about vehicle recalls. By following manufacturer recommendations and getting timely repairs, car owners can ensure their vehicles operate safely and reliably.
