The City of Angels is gearing up for its Olympic close-up, and it’s pulling out all the stops with a logo lineup that's more star-studded than a Hollywood red carpet.

In 2020, the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics unveiled not one, not two, but a whopping 35 different logo variants, aiming to capture LA’s kaleidoscopic culture and vibrant energy.

Orchestrated by the LA28 organizing committee, this visual symphony keeps a consistent base design of an ‘L’ hovering above ‘28’. The ‘A’, however, is a canvas, vividly interpreted by a diverse cast of collaborators. From chart-topping musicians to silver screen stars and golden athletes, everyone got in on the action. Billie Eilish, Snoop Dogg, Reese Witherspoon, and Olympic champion Chloe Kim are just a few of the big names lending their artistic flair to the project.

Janet Evans, LA28 Chief Athlete Officer and former Olympic swimming sensation, explains the reasoning behind this logo extravaganza: “Los Angeles defies a singular identity and there’s not one way to represent LA. LA is what it is because of the people and the LA28 Games should represent that.”

Handover Olympic ‘A’

The Handover Olympic ‘A’ emblem honors the spirit of two iconic host cities, present and future. The custom animated mark features a flag flowing from France to the United States, celebrating the ceremonial moment in which Los Angeles becomes the next host city of the Olympic Games for the third time in its history.

I ride hard for LA—it’s a mini version of the world. The arts is an important way to rebrand a city and bring people together. My ‘A’ balances my aesthetic design and speaking for the city.

My illustrated design uses my signature gestural hands, intertwined in an array of colors. It’s a metaphor for LAʼs greatest strength: vibrant diversity and the positive growth that stems from it.

I want to illustrate that moment where a runner breaks through their wall. Translating that indescribable euphoria into image.

My ‘A’ explores the intersection of art and beauty. It reflects the color of California poppies and the natural works of art all around us.
