In-flight meals and entertainment are things people have come to expect when boarding a plane. In recent times, however, travelers are choosing to “raw-dog” it. Now, they’re virtually simulating it, too.

The Rawdog Simulator, developed by Rawdog Airlines, isn’t your typical flight simulator. Instead of offering the thrill of piloting an aircraft, it challenges users to do absolutely nothing. By nothing, we mean no movies, no music, no books, no snacks, and not even a sip of water. You’re forced to stare at the back of the seat in front of you for hours on end, gritting your teeth through a long-haul flight without any distractions. The game uses face-tracking technology to ensure compliance.

The grueling virtual experience is inspired by a growingly popular yet baffling phenomenon that’s taking social media by storm. The concept of “raw-dogging” a flight, which involves enduring a flight without entertainment, eating, or drinking, is seen as a test of mental endurance and resilience. Passengers are pushed to experience the flight in its most unadulterated form, focusing solely on their thoughts and the environment around them. Some view it as a form of meditation or a way to practice mindfulness, while others see it as a unique and somewhat extreme way to test their mental strength.

The Rawdog Simulator replicates the experience of a real flight, complete with a virtual terminal, boarding process, and in-flight environment, for the sole purpose of testing the mental fortitude of participants and challenging them to “sit back and endure the flight.”

The goal is to maintain this focus for as long as possible, with the top performers being displayed on a leaderboard.
