Elon Musk justifies X's redesigned gun emoji as combatting 'woke mind virus'

On Elon Musk’s X, gun reform looks a lot different. Last month, the platform formerly known as Twitter swapped out the water pistol emoji for something with a bit more bang—a more realistic depiction of a Colt M1911 handgun. The change snuffs out the playful water gun emoji introduced in 2016 as part of an effort by major tech companies to address concerns about gun violence.

Back then, Apple, Google, and others decided that a less aggressive symbol would help reduce the potential impact of digital representations of firearms on real-world behavior.

Now, Musk has weighed in on the redesign, framing the return to a realistic firearm as a step toward more “honest” communication and blaming the “woke mind virus” for the rise of the toy gun back in 2016.

So, X has fired back. What are your thoughts on this seemingly trigger-happy design decision?
