When it comes to political paw-er, few can match the influence of Larry, the feline resident of 10 Downing Street. But even as this furry diplomat continues to prowl the halls of British governance, officials are quietly preparing for the day when Larry's nine lives finally run out.

Since 2011, Larry has been the unofficial ‘Chief Mouser’ at the Prime Minister’s residence, a position that has seen him outlast five PMs and become a beloved national figure. Originally adopted from Battersea Cats Home to tackle a rodent problem, Larry quickly captured the public’s imagination and became a symbol of continuity in the ever-changing world of British politics.

Now, as Larry enters his senior years, Downing Street officials have taken the prudent step of preparing for his eventual passing. Tucked away in the No. 10 IT system are folders containing a carefully crafted press release and a selection of photographs, ready to be deployed when the time comes.

Despite these somber plans, Larry is reportedly in good health and continues to fulfill his duties with feline grace. His role extends far beyond mere pest control. According to his official biography on the Cabinet Office website, Larry’s responsibilities include greeting guests, inspecting security measures, and even testing antique furniture for its napping potential.

Larry's popularity has transcended the political sphere, with his antics often making headlines. His occasional spats with Palmerston, the former Chief Mouser of the Foreign Office, provided a lighthearted counterpoint to the serious business of government.

When the time comes, the announcement will be handled with the dignity and respect befitting a national treasure, ensuring that Larry’s legacy as the most famous mouser in British politics is appropriately honored.
