Garth Gator
Nintendo has officially dropped the curtain on its New 3DS repair services. As of August 28, the beloved handheld console, which enjoyed a successful run as the company’s flagship portable gaming device, is no longer eligible for official repairs due to a shortage of crucial replacement parts. This news, posted on X (Twitter) by the company’s Japanese customer service team, comes as a bittersweet reminder that even the most cherished gaming systems eventually reach their end of life. While it’s not unusual for companies to phase out support for older hardware, Nintendo’s decision is particularly noteworthy due to the specific reason behind it: a simple lack of parts. The New 3DS and its larger New 3DS XL sibling enjoyed a significant lifespan, shipping millions upon millions of units worldwide. However, the passage of time has inevitably taken its toll on the console’s supply chain. With the cessation of repairs, the New 3DS joins its predecessors in the gaming history books. For now, US customers who own late-model 3DS XLs can still turn to Nintendo’s repair service for assistance. However, those with New 3DS systems might need to consider alternative options, like iFixit. https://retrododo.com/new-nintendo-3ds-repairs-end/ https://www.engadget.com/gaming/nintendo/nintendo-cant-repair-your-new-3ds-because-it-ran-out-of-parts-192615658.html https://www.gamedeveloper.com/business/nintendo-ends-new-3ds-repair-support-after-draining-parts-supply https://www.nintendolife.com/news/2024/08/nintendo-runs-out-of-replacement-parts-for-new-3ds-ends-repairs-in-japan Image: Nintendo
