KeyboardKitty
Puma and Manchester City have unveiled a unique collaboration that seamlessly bridges the worlds of football and music. The special-edition 'Definitely City' kit for the 2024/25 season celebrates the 30th anniversary of Oasis' landmark debut album, Definitely Maybe, paying homage to the band’s deep Manchester roots. This collection stands out as a bold tribute to both the city's musical legacy and its dominant football club. At the heart of this collaboration is Noel Gallagher, Oasis' lead guitarist, songwriter, and a lifelong Manchester City fan.Gallagher was personally involved in the design process, and his passion for both music and football shines through. He spoke of his longstanding connection with the club, noting that his love for City even predates his love for music. "I loved City before anything," Gallagher said, emphasizing how this project is a celebration of two great passions in his life. The collaboration with Puma came together quickly, with Gallagher instantly agreeing to merge his musical legacy with his devotion to Manchester City. A "light straw" base color mirrors the walls of the original artwork, while the signature sky blue side panels and sleeves embody the club's traditional colors. Marine blue supersonic wave patterns nod to both the band's dynamic sound and the iconic visuals of the album. Poppy pink accents on the cuffs and detailing bring a modern twist, blending nostalgia with contemporary fashion. This careful fusion of retro and modern aesthetics perfectly encapsulates the shared working-class, Mancunian roots of both Manchester City and Oasis. Bringing the collaboration to life, the launch images of the kit were shot in a living room recreated to resemble the album cover, with Manchester City stars such as Kyle Walker, Mateo Kovačić, and Ederson posing alongside Gallagher himself. This attention to detail underscores the deep connection between the design and its musical inspiration. Marco Mueller, PUMA's Senior Head of Product Line Management Teamsport Apparel, praised the kit as more than just a piece of sportswear. “It’s a celebration of Manchester City's ongoing journey and a tribute to a cultural phenomenon that resonates with fans around the world,” he explained. The kit will make its on-pitch debut on September 18, 2024, when Manchester City faces Inter Milan in the UEFA Champions League at the Etihad Stadium. This special-edition kit will be worn exclusively in select European fixtures throughout the season. In line with Puma's commitment to sustainability, the replica jerseys are crafted from 100% recycled materials, excluding trims and decorations. Coinciding with the highly anticipated Oasis reunion tour, this collaboration marks a significant cultural moment, uniting Manchester’s football and musical heritage in a uniquely powerful way. Beyond the jersey, Puma has launched an entire "Definitely City" collection, including track jackets, retro jerseys, and bomber jackets, allowing fans to connect with both the iconic band and their favorite club. Fans can explore the collection at Puma stores, on the brand’s website, and through Manchester City's official outlets. Fans, what do you think of this 'Definitely City' collaboration?
