Microsoft is clearly pushing all the right buttons with its new Cipher Series for the Xbox Elite Wireless Controller Series 2, available through Xbox Design Lab. This fresh collection is serving up a hefty dose of nostalgia, wrapped in six eye-catching transparent top cases.

Nostalgia lovers will instantly recognize the appeal: clear plastic casings that reveal the mechanical intricacies inside.

To elevate the aesthetic even further, Microsoft has unveiled the Xbox Wireless Controller Special Edition – Ghost Cipher, following the success of the Sky Cipher, creating yet another stunning visual throwback to the translucent devices that defined the late ’90s and early 2000s.

Releasing on October 8, the Ghost Cipher edition features a transparent top case that reveals its silver interior, offering a look inside the high-tech machinery. Add to that rubberized Ash Gray grips, metallic bronze triggers, and a bronze D-pad, and you’ve got a controller that looks as good as it feels.

While the Ghost Cipher is a showstopper with its translucent casing and sleek accents, it doesn’t skimp on functionality. The controller is equipped with the latest Xbox Wireless and Bluetooth technology, allowing uninterrupted connectivity to Xbox Series X, Xbox Series S, Windows PCs, and even mobile devices. The dedicated share button makes capturing and sharing gameplay a breeze, and with up to 40 hours of battery life using AA batteries, players can enjoy marathon gaming sessions without constantly reaching for a charger.

Microsoft’s Cipher Series is a love letter to a time when transparent tech was all the rage, with a modern makeover to match today’s gaming standards.

Available for pre-order now, the Ghost Cipher Special Edition itself is priced at $69.99.
