In a move to reignite interest in trans-Pacific travel, Qantas has unveiled its first North American brand campaign in a decade. Dubbed Australia in the Sky, this ambitious project brings together some of Australia’s most celebrated talents to create a captivating portrait of the Land Down Under, aiming to entice American travelers to embark on an unforgettable Aussie adventure.

At the helm of this creative endeavor is Baz Luhrmann, the famous Australian director celebrated for cinematic masterpieces such as Moulin Rouge! and The Great Gatsby. Alongside his wife, Catherine Martin, a four-time Academy Award-winning costume designer, Luhrmann serves as both creative consultant and ambassador for the campaign.

Adding a touch of Hollywood allure, Chris Hemsworth, the charismatic star of the Avengers series, lends his instantly recognizable voice, guiding viewers through this airborne journey. The campaign also features appearances by Australian supermodel Jess Hart and actress Charlee Fraser, who recently starred in Furiosa: A Mad Max Journey and Anyone But You

Filmed inside Qantas’ Los Angeles hangar, the campaign uses an A380 aircraft as the stage to transport viewers across Australia’s most iconic landscapes. The result is a visual feast, showcasing landmarks like Sydney’s sun-kissed Bondi Beach, the architectural marvels of Melbourne’s Federation Square, the majestic Sydney Harbour, and the breathtaking vastness of the Great Barrier Reef. This stunning imagery is further enhanced by a soundtrack from Australian musical duo Angus and Julia Stone, creating a sensory experience that captures the essence of Australian culture and hospitality.

Qantas’ Chief Marketing Officer, Petra Perry, noted that the campaign is designed to make passengers feel like their Australian holiday begins the moment they step onboard a Qantas flight. It highlights the premium onboard services, including top-quality Australian wine and produce, while celebrating the airline’s friendly crew—an embodiment of Australia’s warm hospitality.

Beyond the campaign, Qantas is expanding its flight services between the U.S. and Australia to meet growing demand. Starting October 27, the airline will increase its New York-Auckland-Sydney service from four to six flights per week, with plans to launch Project Sunrise non-stop flights between Sydney and New York by 2026. Qantas will also introduce direct flights between Melbourne and Honolulu in May 2025, further boosting its North American network.

This campaign aligns with Qantas’ celebration of 70 years of service to North America, highlighting the airline’s long-standing commitment to connecting the two continents and promoting Australian tourism. As Qantas enhances its U.S.-Australia connectivity, Australia in the Sky serves as both a tribute to the airline’s legacy and a renewed invitation for travelers to explore the breathtaking beauty of Australia. Will you be booking your trip?
