Coloroscopio
Hold the mustard and pass the Gewürz! Did you know Volkswagen makes ketchup? The automaker is shifting gears from cars to condiments as it brings a taste of Germany to American tables, with its legendary Gewürz Ketchup finally crossing the pond. While Volkswagen may be synonymous with legendary cars like the Beetle and the Golf, it’s also been in the business of producing food for its employees. The brand’s currywurst sausage has been a staple at its German factories since 1973, with the recipe kept under wraps by a select few. The sausage, often served in bite-sized pieces drenched in the special Gewürz Ketchup, is an iconic pairing in Volkswagen’s native Germany. The ketchup itself was first created in 1996 to complement the currywurst. As part of its 75th-anniversary celebrations in the US, Volkswagen of America decided to spice things up by offering the cult-favorite condiment through its DriverGear merchandise portal. This tangy treat has since developed a loyal following thanks to its sweeter, richer flavor, which differs from your standard ketchup with a hint of spice. It’s long been a staple in VW's German plants, where it's traditionally paired with the company's equally famous sausage. However, the limited batch was snatched up by eager fans quicker than a Golf GTI off the starting line, leaving some hungry for more. “This year we’re celebrating more than a big anniversary of selling cars,” explains Rachael Zaluzec, senior vice president of customer experience and brand marketing at Volkswagen of America. “We’re celebrating stories, memories, passion, and all the fun, and unexpected things that make Volkswagen the brand we are today—things like our Gewürz Ketchup Brand condiment.” https://www.foodandwine.com/volkswagen-gewurz-ketchup-brand-8716566 https://www.topgear.com/car-news/usa/volkswagen-has-sold-out-its-ketchup-us-and-wait-what https://www.foxnews.com/food-drink/volkswagen-ketchup-offered-consumers-first-time-quickly-snatched-up Images: Volkswagen
