Lady Gaga modifies the Mona Lisa's historic smile in video for Louvre & 'Joker 2'

Lady Gaga's latest performance might have art lovers grinning from ear to ear, as she brings a touch of madness to the hallowed halls of the Louvre. In a video soundtracked by her new song The Joker, the pop icon turns the world’s most famous museum into her personal playground.

 

The 80-second clip, released by the Louvre, showcases Gaga in full Harley Quinn mode, prancing through the museum’s corridors after hours. She playfully interacts with priceless artworks, including the Winged Victory of Samothrace.

 

 

But it's her encounter with Leonardo da Vinci's Mona Lisa that steals the show. In a moment of mischievous inspiration, Gaga decides the enigmatic lady could use a makeover.

 

With a tube of lipstick in hand, she leans in close, seemingly superimposing the protective glass of the world’s most famous smile with a Joker-esque grin.

 

While the video might seem like a direct tie-in to the Joker sequel, slated for release on October 2, it’s actually a collaborative effort between Lady Gaga, Warner Bros, and the Louvre. This act of artistic anarchy serves a dual purpose, promoting both the upcoming film Joker: Folie à Deux and the Louvre’s fall exhibition, Figures of the Fool: From the Middle Ages to the Romantics. Set to open on October 16 in the newly renovated Hall Napoléon, the retrospective explores the theme of folly in art—a fitting backdrop, perhaps, for Gaga’s Harley Quinn escapade.
