Following the buzz around its $1,750 chip bag purse, the fashion house has unveiled a new line of wallets that give a nod to the snack aisle with a high-fashion twist. The original chip bag-inspired calfskin leather purses, designed by the brand’s creative head Demna, were introduced during Paris Fashion Week in 2022 and quickly went viral. With their crinkly texture and bold, vibrant colors, they closely resembled a bag of Lay’s chips. Initially part of a collaboration with Frito-Lay, the final iteration dropped in October 2023 without the Lay’s branding, letting Balenciaga’s self-deprecating style shine through instead. Now, Demna has taken that concept and folded it—literally. The new versions compress the original bag design into a rectangle, with wrinkled details that capture the messy look of a real chip bag. The ‘foil’ corner peeks out, giving these wallets a playful, lived-in feel. While they won’t hold your snacks, the long wallets unfold to reveal several card slots and pockets. There is also a smaller variant that folds in half instead of thirds.
