Members Garth Gator Posted October 2 Members Posted October 2 Spirit Halloween isn’t letting Saturday Night Live have the last laugh. After being spoofed in a sketch during SNL’s 50th season premiere, the seasonal costume giant retorted with its own wearable dose of humor. The sketch, featuring cast members Chloe Fineman, Heidi Gardner, and Michael Longfellow, poked fun at Spirit Halloween's habit of taking over vacant retail spaces, as well as its sometimes questionable product quality. The skit, which aired on September 28, took a playful jab at the pop-up store’s temporary nature, claiming it offers items like “wigs that give you a rash” and “single-use fog machines.” The parody portrayed Spirit Halloween as a retailer profiting from the misfortune of failed businesses, highlighting its six-week stint each year before vanishing until the next spooky season. Spirit Halloween didn’t take the jabs lying down. The company quickly responded with a tongue-in-cheek mock costume package labeled “Irrelevant 50-year-old TV show.” The description of the costume, shared on social media, took aim at SNL’s supposed “dated references,” “unknown cast members,” and “shrinking ratings.” Spirit Halloween sealed the deal by proclaiming, “We are great at raising things back from the dead,” a cheeky nod to SNL’s longevity. https://www.usatoday.com/story/entertainment/tv/2024/10/01/snl-spirit-halloween-social-media-response/75468174007/ https://kotaku.com/spirit-halloween-nbc-snl-saturday-night-live-skit-dead-1851662401 https://www.nbcnews.com/pop-culture/tv/spirit-halloween-strikes-back-snl-season-premiere-sketch-rcna173440 https://www.huffpost.com/entry/spirit-halloween-mocks-snl_n_66fc2eeae4b0d70dca9f4ec5 Images: Kelly Kibbey | Dreamstime.com and Spirit Halloween Quote
