Garth Gator
The irreverent card game company known as Cards Against Humanity (CAH) is dealing out a new hand in the political arena, offering cold, hard cash to persuade non-voters to go off the sidelines. The company is offering up to $100 to people who skipped the 2020 election if they pledge to vote in 2024 and publicly apologize for their past inaction. To seal the deal, however, participants would need to post a rather colorful message aimed at the 45th US President: “ ‘Donald Trump is a human toilet.” It goes without saying that this offer is aimed at non-voters in swing states who lean Democratic. This voter engagement stunt coincides with the release of CAH’s 2024 Election Pack. Available to all Americans (voters and non-voters alike) for $7.99, this expansion set of 30 satirical cards mocks the current political climate. Profits from this deck will go toward paying non-voters in swing states who are apologizing for what they did—or didn’t—do in 2020. CAH claims it knows who didn’t vote because it formed a Super PAC and, frighteningly, managed to purchase voting records from an internet data broker. On top of the incentives, CAH has set up a website, Apologize.lol, which features public apologies from people who regret sitting out the last election. Visitors to the site can scroll through what many are calling both a hilarious and biting look at political inaction. https://www.resetera.com/threads/didnt-vote-in-2020-cards-against-humanity-will-pay-you-100-if-you-apologize-and-vote-in-2024.1004631/ https://adage.com/creativity/work/cards-against-humanity-will-pay-2020s-non-voters-publicly-apologize-and-vote-year/2585976 Images: Antonio Batinić | Dreamstime.com and Cards Against Humanity
