Green Day is taking fans on a nostalgic trip down memory lane, or should we say, down the fish’s gullet, to mark the 30th anniversary of its breakthrough album Dookie. The punk rock trio has partnered with Los Angeles art studio Brain to release Dookie Demastered, transforming the album’s 15 tracks into lo-fi formats in a self-deprecating tribute.

Forgoing crystal-clear remasters, Green Day is turning the concept on its head by intentionally degrading the sound quality of its iconic songs, harkening back to the band’s early days when raw, unpolished recordings were the norm.

Fans can enter draws for a chance to own limited-edition items that play Green Day’s hits in the most unexpected ways, such as Basket Case, as crooned by a Big Mouth Billy Bass, and Chump, as warbled through a Teddy Ruxpin doll.

The project spans decades of obsolete tech, from MiniDiscs and Game Boy cartridges to positively ancient wax cylinders and player piano rolls. There’s even a Fisher Price toy record in the mix, proving that no format is too niche for this creative endeavor.

There’s something oddly poetic about hearing these punk anthems through the crackle of a floppy disk or the tinny speaker of an electric toothbrush.
