Konami and Bloober Team have just brought a classic back from the shadows with the release of the Silent Hill 2 remake on October 8. Fans of the 2001 survival horror game are in for a treat, as the remake faithfully recreates the eerie psychological tension of the original while giving the game a serious visual and gameplay upgrade, courtesy of Unreal Engine 5. As before, players can expect multiple endings, depending on how they navigate the dark, fog-covered streets of Silent Hill.

The modding community wasted no time putting their creative spin on the game, from character swaps like playing as Leon from Resident Evil 4 or CJ from Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas to the insertion of Thomas the Tank Engine.

One of the most notable mods so far on Nexus Mods is one by FrancisLouis, who flipped the game’s eerie atmosphere on its head by clearing the town of its iconic fog. Dubbed “Sunny Hills,” this mod transforms the oppressive gloom into a bright, sunny environment—making Silent Hill look a little more like a cheerful sitcom set than a place of nightmares. Like nothing could ever go wrong here.

The remake still follows James Sunderland, a grieving widower drawn back to Silent Hill by a mysterious letter from his deceased wife, Mary. As James confronts monsters and unravels the town's many dark secrets, the updated visuals only enhance the unsettling atmosphere that made the original game a cult favorite.
