Coloroscopio
Tesla’s latest robot showcase has some folks accusing the company of trying to pull a fast one—quite literally. In tandem with the recent We, Robot event, the company showcased new footage of its humanoid robot, Optimus, performing tasks like walking through a factory, climbing stairs, picking up boxes, and even pouring drinks. However, some sharp-eyed viewers noticed that the video had been sped up—sometimes by as much as 10 times—leading to questions about the robot’s current capabilities. While the electric automaker didn’t entirely hide this fact, subtle on-screen text indicated which portions of the footage were sped up, Gizmodo points out. This disclaimer could be “easily missed,” according to another report by The Byte, giving unwitting viewers the impression that Optimus is more agile and capable than it actually is at this stage. On a similar note, it has also emerged that the robots were not completely operating independently during the event. Instead, human teleoperators controlled many of the actions, including walking, stair climbing, and interacting with attendees. Despite these limitations, Tesla CEO Elon Musk remains optimistic about the project. He announced plans for low-volume production of the autonomous robots for internal use by next year, with hopes for wider commercial availability by 2026. Musk’s vision for Optimus suggests that, in time, the robots could find applications across various industries, from manufacturing to customer service. https://futurism.com/the-byte/tesla-sped-up-video-optimus-robots https://gizmodo.com/tesla-makes-autonomous-robot-look-cooler-with-sped-up-video-2000513073 Image: Tesla
