Coloroscopio Posted October 28 Posted October 28 Apple is reportedly working on a new smart home display that promises a dose of nostalgia, taking design cues from the iMac G4—a fan favorite from the early 2000s. According to Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman in his Power On newsletter, the upcoming device will feature a small, square screen mounted at an angle on a rounded base, evoking memories of the iconic desktop’s circular stand. This new display is expected to function as a central hub for controlling smart home devices, making video calls, and streaming content. Running apps similar to those found on the iPad, such as FaceTime, Notes, and Calendar, it aims to blend practicality with retro charm. Rumors suggest that the device’s base may also include speakers, turning it into a HomePod-like device for music and voice interactions. Gurman’s report hints at more than one version of the product in development. A higher-end model could feature a larger display mounted on a robotic arm, allowing it to swivel and move—much like the iMac G4’s adjustable screen. This potential feature would add a touch of interactivity, making it easier for users to adjust the screen’s position during video calls or while following recipes hands-free. https://www.engadget.com/home/smart-home/apple-may-tap-into-a-beloved-retro-design-for-its-smart-home-display-210412601.html https://www.techradar.com/home/smart-home/apples-rumored-smart-home-display-could-be-a-cross-between-an-imac-g4-and-a-homepod https://www.digitaltrends.com/home/apple-smart-home-display-imac-g4-design-base-report/ https://www.macrumors.com/2024/10/27/apple-smart-home-display-imac-g4-design/ Image: trekandshoot | Dreamstime.com Quote
