Apple debuts M4 Mac mini, its first carbon-neutral desktop and its smallest yet

Apple has unleashed a bite-sized powerhouse with its latest Mac mini, now sporting the new M4 chip. Starting at $599, this compact machine—its tiniest yet at five inches by five inches by two inches—might be small enough to sit discreetly on your desk, but it’s all about big numbers under the hood. 

 

With a 10-core CPU and GPU, the M4 chip brings up to 1.8 times the CPU performance and 2.2 times the GPU performance of its predecessor, the M1 model.

 

 

For those needing an even greater performance boost, Apple offers the Mac mini M4 Pro, which costs $1,399 and ramps things up with 14 CPU cores and 20 GPU cores—perfect for handling more intense workloads.

 

 

This little device isn’t just about muscle. Apple is also doubling down on its environmental efforts. The new Mac mini is the company’s first carbon-neutral Mac, aiming to reduce its environmental footprint wherever possible. It touts a more than 80% reduction in greenhouse gas emissions across all stages, from materials to customer use. The enclosure is crafted from 100% recycled aluminum, and other parts include recycled rare earth elements. Meanwhile, production process is powered by 100% renewable energy.
