Members Garth Gator Posted October 31 Members Posted October 31 Netflix is ready to dive even further into the deadly world of Squid Game, and this time it’s said to be bringing it stateside. David Fincher, the filmmaker known for projects like Fight Club, Mindhunter, Gone Girl, and House of Cards, has reportedly been tapped to direct an English-language spin-off of the original South Korean sensation, sources tell Deadline. The series, initially envisioned to be a remake, has instead turned into a brand-new storyline that will start filming in late 2025. This version of Squid Game will purportedly be set in America, opening up the potential to explore a distinctly American twist on the high-risk games. With Fincher at the helm, it’s likely that themes of desperation, social inequality, and the darker side of human nature would be reimagined in a setting more familiar to Western audiences. Dennis Kelly, the writer behind Utopia, is said to have been enlisted to craft the script. Netflix is also releasing more content linked to the Squid Game universe. Season 2 of Squid Game: The Challenge, a British reality series that brings the fictional games into a real-world (though non-lethal) setting, will soon be in production. There’s also a new video game called Squid Game: Unleashed, set to be available on Netflix for subscribers. https://deadline.com/2024/10/squid-game-david-fincher-tv-series-1236159538/ https://www.newsx.com/entertainment/new-squid-game-set-in-america-david-fincher-to-lead-new-netflix-series-deets-inside/ https://thenightly.com.au/culture/tv/david-fincher-is-developing-an-american-version-of-squid-game-c-16559436 https://comicbook.com/uncategorized/news/netflix-squid-game-us-english-language-american-remake-david-fincher/ Image: David Esser | Dreamstime.com Quote
