Rimowa unleashes 'optical illusion' suitcase that always appears to be in motion

Need to spot your luggage on the conveyor belt in a blink? Rimowa ups the ante with the Original Cabin Optical, a limited-edition suitcase that adds a touch of magic to its iconic design. Crafted from high-end anodized aluminum, this suitcase features a unique optical pattern that gives the illusion of the familiar grooves disappearing, depending on how the light hits it.

 

The effect is all thanks to a selective brushing technique applied to the aluminum shell, which creates a shimmering and dynamic visual effect akin to the appearance of a fast-moving suitcase. The subtle dance between light and texture creates an almost hypnotic experience.

 

 

Within, a jacquard lining completes the magic by mirroring the shifting optical patterns.

 

Beyond aesthetics, the Original Cabin Optical is designed with the traveler in mind. It includes TSA-approved locks, a height-adjustable Flex Divider for easy packing, and Rimowa's smooth Multiwheel system for effortless navigation through busy airports. To add a bit more flair, each suitcase comes with a specially designed leather luggage tag and a matching sticker, both featuring the optical motif that defines this edition.

 

 

Produced in Rimowa's Cologne factory, this limited-edition release consists of 2,002 individually numbered pieces. Priced at $2,050, the suitcase's size is ideal for short trips of about three to four days and will be available for shipping starting on November 7.
