Members Garth Gator Posted November 7 Members Posted November 7 As of November 6, 2024, typing “Chat.com” into your browser will take you straight to ChatGPT, thanks to OpenAI's latest acquisition, which adds a touch of simplicity to how users access their popular AI chatbot. The domain itself, Chat.com, is one of the internet’s oldest and most well-known addresses, having first been registered back in 1996. HubSpot co-founder and CTO Dharmesh Shah purchased the domain in 2023 for approximately $15.5 million, which made it one of the priciest domain deals to date. Shah has since sold it to OpenAI for an undisclosed amount, reportedly receiving shares in the company as part of the transaction. Through the acquisition, OpenAI seems to be positioning ChatGPT as the chat app for all, whether users are tech-savvy or not. Earlier, the company also secured AI.com, which similarly redirects to ChatGPT, betting on the notion that a memorable web address can go a long way. https://www.absolutegeeks.com/article/tech-news/openai-acquires-premium-domain-chat-com-for-chatgpt/ https://mashable.com/article/chatgpt-ai-dot-com-domain-name-openai https://www.binance.com/en-KZ/square/post/2024-11-07-openai-acquires-chat-com-domain-15903356867370 Image: Peter KovA!A? | Dreamstime.com Quote
