Super Nintendo World unveils Donkey Kong Country expansion, coming soon to Osaka and Florida

Super Nintendo World is taking a wild swing into jungle territory with its newest expansion: Donkey Kong Country. The iconic barrel-throwing, banana-collecting ape is getting his own dedicated area, set to launch at Universal Studios Japan in Osaka on December 11, 2024, with a U.S. debut at Universal Studios Florida slated for May 22, 2025.

 

Revealed during a special Nintendo Direct presentation by legendary designer Shigeru Miyamoto, the expansion promises to transport visitors into Donkey Kong’s world through a virtual showcase. The standout attraction is Mine Cart Madness, a rollercoaster designed to replicate the exhilarating rail-jumping sequences from the classic game, complete with a backdrop of a dazzling Golden Temple.

Guests can also explore Donkey Kong’s Treehouse, play a rhythm game using bongo drums, and search for hidden letters scattered throughout the park with the Power Band system, ensuring a fully interactive experience. Miyamoto shared his excitement for the expansion, saying, “We’re thrilled to bring the world of Donkey Kong to life at Super Nintendo World. This expansion will offer fans a unique and immersive experience celebrating the beloved franchise.” His passion reflects the anticipation of fans who have cherished Donkey Kong since the 1980s.

This new section builds on the already popular Super Mario-themed areas, combining nostalgic appeal with innovative new attractions suitable for all ages. From themed merchandise to jungle-inspired snacks, every detail has been crafted to immerse visitors fully in DK’s world and provide a loving tribute to the legendary series.
