Administrators Orange Posted November 12 Administrators Posted November 12 Apple has recently launched a range of repair parts for the iPhone 16, making it easier for users to perform self-repairs., following years of criticism over restrictive repair policies. The new parts available through Apple's Self-Service Repair program include TrueDepth cameras, displays, speakers, back glass, and batteries. Prices for these parts vary, with a replacement display costing between $279 and $379, depending on the model, and batteries starting at $99. Apple also provides tool rental kits for $49, allowing users to rent the specialized tools needed for repairs. Additionally, the company offers return credits for customers who send back used or damaged parts, which are then refurbished or recycled responsibly. In addition, customers can rent the specialized tools used by Apple's authorized technicians. This initiative is a response to growing consumer demand for more accessible repair options and aligns with recent "Right to Repair" legislation. Apple had long argued that unauthorized repairs could lead to mistakes that damage devices or impact customer satisfaction. In July 2021, President Joe Biden issued an executive order that directed the Federal Trade Commission to enforce rules supporting DIY repairs. The iPhone 16 itself has been built to be more accessible for self-repairs. For example, the iPhone 16’s back glass can now be more easily removed and replaced, a process that was more challenging with the iPhone 15 series. Furthermore, the internal layout in the iPhone 16 series has been updated to allow quicker access to components like the battery and camera modules. https://www.cnet.com/tech/mobile/apple-is-now-selling-repair-parts-for-the-iphone-16/ https://www.phonearena.com/news/apple-replacement-parts-iphone-16-self-service-repair_id164677 https://gizmodo.com/apple-has-begun-selling-iphone-16-replacement-parts-2000522783 Image: Leung Cho Pan | Dreamstime.com Quote
