Tesla has announced its sixth recall of the year for the Cybertruck, this time due to an inverter defect that could lead to sudden power loss to the wheels. The recall affects more than 2,400 units manufactured between November 6, 2023, and July 30, 2024. No reports of related accidents, injuries, or fatalities have emerged.

No Software Fix

The issue stems from the metal-oxide-semiconductor field-effect transistors (MOSFETs) in the inverter, which, under certain conditions, may fail and cause a sudden loss of propulsion. This malfunction elevates the risk of accidents, prompting Tesla’s swift recall. Unlike many Tesla issues resolved via over-the-air software updates, this problem requires direct mechanical intervention. Owners will need to bring their trucks to service centers to physically replace a critical component.

Ongoing Cybertruck Challenges

This recall adds another chapter to Tesla’s ongoing challenges with the Cybertruck’s rollout. Prior recalls have tackled various issues, including rearview camera malfunctions, windshield wiper problems, trunk bed trim inconsistencies, and accelerator pad defects. Last month’s recall of over 27,000 Cybertrucks for rearview camera malfunctions underscored persistent production hurdles for Tesla’s highly anticipated electric truck.

What Cybertruck Owners Should Do

  • Check Your VIN: Owners should verify if their vehicle is part of the recall by visiting Tesla’s official recall webpage or contacting a service center.
  • Schedule a Service Appointment: Affected owners should book an appointment for the free inverter replacement at a Tesla service center.

Tesla continues to reassure its customers of its dedication to safety and aims to resolve the issue efficiently, with the replacement program set to begin in December 2024. The automaker’s proactive measures highlight its commitment to maintaining customer trust and overcoming production challenges as it refines its electric truck lineup.
