Takashi-Murakami-Ohana-Hatake-Flowers-Footwear-Slides-Sandals-EVA-Foam-1.jpg

Takashi Murakami is stepping into a whole new field of flowers, literally. The renowned Japanese artist is expanding beyond canvases and sculptures with Ohana Hatake, a footwear brand inspired by his famous floral designs. The brand name, which means "field of flowers," serves as a fitting reference to Murakami's iconic motifs and his ambition to bring art into everyday life.

Ohana Hatake kicked off its journey with two distinct models: the Ohana Full-Bloom and the Surippa Ohana.

The Ohana Full-Bloom, a slide made from sturdy EVA foam, is adorned with an oversized version of Murakami's smiling flower, available in bright shades like Aquarius, Lapis Blue, Raspberry Rose, Apricot, Blazing Yellow, and Island Green, marrying comfort with a bold splash of color.

On the other hand, the Surippa Ohana takes inspiration from traditional Japanese house slippers. It’s simple, practical, and still carries Murakami's artistic touch, making it a more subtle option for those who appreciate his work but prefer an understated look.

Ohana Hatake comes in collaboration with product design firm VIOLET ST. Together, they aim to balance the artist's creative flair with real-world wearability.

The brand's big reveal took place at ComplexCon in Las Vegas on November 16 to 17, 2024. Attendees were given a chance to check out exclusive colorways and see the Surippa Ohana up close, including a special Rust version.

The brand draws inspiration from a scene in the manga Frieren: Beyond Journey’s End, where a field of flowers is conjured by magic—a theme that resonated with Murakami and connected to his signature floral imagery. This new line is also part of his broader aim to explore and intertwine American and Japanese cultures.
