Jaguar is shedding its coat as part of a bold branding effort to lure in a younger, more diverse clientele as it fully transitions to an electric future. But customers think there’s not much to purr about.

A striking departure from the classic ‘growler’ design, the new logo is set in a minimalist typeface known as ‘Jaguar Exuberant’. This emblem blends geometric, symmetrical elements. Although it's a decidedly pared-back look, this branding, dubbed the ‘Device Mark’, features a jumble of upper and lowercase letters to break things up.

The eponymous mascot is nowhere to be seen in Jaguar's announcement, but don’t worry, the cat is not dead. Instead of jumping over the main wordmark, it lives on in what the British automaker calls a ‘Maker's Mark’. In this updated form, the leaper subtly disrupts horizontal stripes.

There’s also a new monogram featuring the letters J and r forming a circle.

Jaguar's new brand system will be powered by a “creative philosophy” called ‘Exuberant Modernism’, representing the company’s bold and imaginative character.

However, the cat's out of the bag—not everyone is on board with the drastic changes. Many fans have taken to social media to growl about the rebrand, with some labeling the new logo “the biggest downgrade of all time.” Others lament how the company is the latest to join the latest “blanding” train, with one person griping, “Minimalism is killing us.”

As part of the broader rebranding initiative, Jaguar is also committing fully to electric vehicles. The brand intends to introduce three new electric models by 2026, beginning with a high-performance GT that promises over 500 horsepower and a range of 435 miles. Following that, Jaguar intends to release a new SUV and a luxury limousine, marking a definitive move away from its traditional internal combustion engine roots.

For now, the uproar seems to be about the dramatic brand makeover. Check out some memes below.
