Members Enter Stage Rite Posted November 26 Members Posted November 26 Elton John has announced the postponement of his latest album following a severe eye infection that’s left him partially blind. Life’s thrown a curveball at the Rocket Man, and for now, the music has to wait. The 77-year-old music legend recently revealed in an interview with Good Morning America that a severe infection led to the loss of vision in his right eye. It happened in July 2024 while he was spending the summer in the South of France, and it’s made working on new music nearly impossible for the time being. The infection has had a profound impact on John's daily routine and his ability to perform creatively. He spoke candidly about how the vision loss has affected his ability to read lyrics, watch television, and work in the studio. While his left eye is still functional, it isn’t in perfect condition either, which means that even small tasks have become a struggle. Despite all this, Elton remains hopeful, expressing that he believes his condition can improve over time—though it may take a while. Naturally, the vision issues have put the release of his new album on hold. John mentioned that his vision problems have left him feeling “kind of stuck in the moment,” making it hard to continue with the recording sessions and other creative work required to finish the project. The album—which he’s teased would “surprise the s**t out of you”—was meant to be recorded with longtime collaborator Bernie Taupin, but now fans will need to wait a bit longer for the final product. The setback hasn’t been easy, but it’s not the first time Elton John has faced health issues. Over the years, he’s endured knee and hip replacements, a pacemaker, and hearing loss from decades on tour. Yet, even now, his spirit remains resilient. Beyond his music, John has been involved in the documentary Elton John: Never Too Late, co-directed by his husband, David Furnish, and R.J. Cutler. The film, set to debut on Disney+ on December 13, provides an intimate glimpse into his iconic career, the preparations for his final North American concert, and the challenges he’s faced along the way—balancing his health, his career, and his family life. Despite the vision loss and the delayed album, John remains determined to keep moving forward. He’s grateful for the support from his doctors, family, and loyal fans. https://www.goodmorningamerica.com/culture/video/elton-john-opens-losing-eyesight-116194180 https://ew.com/elton-john-vision-loss-right-eye-infection-8751267 https://www.usatoday.com/story/entertainment/music/2024/11/25/elton-john-vision-loss-eyesight/76566649007/ https://people.com/elton-john-reveals-he-lost-vision-in-his-right-eye-after-an-infection-8751363 https://nypost.com/2024/11/25/entertainment/elton-john-is-blind-in-his-right-eye-after-infection-floored-me/ Image: blurf | Dreamstime.com Quote
