Elon Musk teases about opening game studio under xAI to 'make games great again'

Elon Musk is looking to hit the restart button on the gaming industry. The billionaire known for his ventures in electric cars with Tesla, space travel with SpaceX, and social media with X (formerly Twitter) has now set his sights on gaming, announcing plans to create an AI-powered game studio under his artificial intelligence company, xAI.

 

In a recent series of short posts on X, Musk expressed frustration with the current state of the industry, claiming that large corporations dominate it and that it has, in his words, become “too woke.” His solution? To “make games great again” under xAI.

 

 

As suggested by a post reshared by Musk, he intends to tackle what he sees as an industry stifled by corporate interests. He believes that large companies have too much influence, which hampers genuine creativity, innovation, and authentic expression. Musk is betting that artificial intelligence can help revive this sense of creative freedom.

 

 

The game studio would operate under xAI, which was founded in March 2023. xAI is focused on using AI to speed up human scientific discovery, and it already has a significant achievement under its belt: Grok, a conversational AI that works similarly to OpenAI's ChatGPT. With access to at least 100,000 Nvidia GPUs, xAI is well-positioned to develop innovative AI technologies—including, perhaps, ones for the gaming studio.

 

Musk hasn’t provided many details about what kind of games this new studio will create, or when the first projects might be revealed.
