The 2024 National Dog Show made history as Vito, a charismatic pug with an undeniable charm, became the first of his breed to win the coveted Best in Show title. The 23rd annual event, hosted by the Kennel Club of Philadelphia, captivated a nationwide audience when it aired on NBC and Peacock immediately following the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade.

Competing under his registered name GCHG Andi In Cahoots, Vito triumphed over more than 1,900 dogs spanning 200 breeds at the Greater Philadelphia Expo Center. The pug’s victory drew thunderous applause from the packed arena and captivated millions watching at home. Best in Show judge George Milutinovich praised Vito’s exceptional qualities, highlighting his compact build, distinctive features, and smooth movement as embodying everything a pug should be, adding, “To look at a pug is to put a smile on your face.” Handler Michael Scott, who had long recognized Vito’s potential, noted that the pug’s expressive features were a hallmark of his success.

Vito’s historic win is the crowning achievement of an illustrious career. In 2023, he claimed Best of Breed at the AKC National Show, followed by a Best in Breed title at the prestigious Westminster Dog Show earlier this year. With this latest triumph, the pug now boasts an impressive total of 25 Best in Show titles.

The competition was fierce. Vito overcame top contenders such as Verde the Welsh Terrier, who secured Reserve Best in Show, along with Monty the Giant Schnauzer, Houston the Clumber Spaniel, JJ the Lhasa Apso, Rupert the Berger Picard, and The Zit the Ibizan Hound.

Beyond the bright lights of the show ring, Vito leads a life filled with love and play. Owned by Carolyn Koch, the 18-pound champion is as beloved at home as he is celebrated on stage. Known for his distinctive squishy face and lively personality, Vito thrives on spending time with his family and playing with his favorite toys.

Since its television debut in 2002, the National Dog Show has crowned many distinguished champions, but Vito’s victory marks the first for a pug. The breed, renowned for its affectionate and playful nature, has long held a special place in the hearts of dog lovers.

Vito’s historic win is more than a personal achievement; it highlights the profound bond between humans and their canine companions. His success is a joyful reminder that greatness can come in the most unexpected forms.
