The addition brings new depth to a tune that has echoed through theme parks and hearts for six decades, while paying dear tribute to the iconically musical Sherman Brothers. Originally composed for the World’s Fair by Richard and Robert Sherman in 1964, the cheerful anthem has become a hallmark for Disney, carrying a universal message of unity, connection, and wonder. The last verse made its debut during a special ABC broadcast, The Untold Story of Mary Poppins: A Special Edition of 20/20, marking the 60th anniversary of the classic film. As part of this homage, a short film titled The Last Verse takes viewers on a nostalgic journey through the history of the beloved song and its longevity around the world. The verse, written by Richard Sherman in 2023, was shared with Disney CEO Bob Iger that summer. Directed by Henry Alex Rubin, the short film features rare interviews and footage that underscore the enduring influence of the Sherman Brothers and their indelible contributions to Disney’s musical heritage. The newly unveiled lyrics emphasize the timeless themes of compassion and global friendship that have always been central to It’s a Small World. Reflecting on the legacy of the Sherman Brothers, Iger shares, “As the legendary creators of some of the most cherished music of the past century, the Sherman brothers will be remembered for their profound impact on our global culture.
