Doom, now ready to play on... your gut bacteria

For her final project in a Synthetic Biology class, an MIT biotech researcher took the whole "Doom runs on everything" meme to a whole new level by using E. coli bacteria to display the game. Yeah, you read that right. 𝘿𝙤𝙤𝙢 𝙤𝙣 𝙜𝙪𝙩 𝙗𝙖𝙘𝙩𝙚𝙧𝙞𝙖. 

She didn't actually cram the entire game into the DNA of these microbes, but she did use them as a sort of living, low-res 32x48 grid screen. A project that takes blood, sweat and guts.
