Users worldwide were met with a “failure to load” message, indicating an unexpected downtime. The outage reportedly began around 10:00 a.m. Eastern Time on March 6. Users reported being abruptly logged out of their accounts and were unable to log back in. The issue was not limited to just one platform; both Facebook and Instagram users encountered similar problems. The outage tracker website, DownDetector, showed a significant spike in reports of outages for both platforms. The impact of this outage was felt globally, with thousands of reports flooding the internet. Users turned to other social media platforms to vent their frustrations. Despite the widespread disruption, Meta’s other platform, WhatsApp, seemed to be unaffected. As of now, there has been no official word from Meta about the cause of the outage.
