Burt's Bees Goes Back to its Roots With Retro Summer Merch Collection Designed By Tavern

Recommended Posts

Brooklyn, NY – July 17, 2024 – In honor of Burt's Bees' 40th anniversary, branding agency Tavern collaborated with the storied brand to unveil Camp Burt’s ‘84 Summer Merch collection, a limited-edition drop celebrating the brand's environmental commitment and long-standing partnership with Katahdin Woods and Waters National Monument.

This unique outdoor apparel and accessories line honors Burt's Bees' dedication to sustainability. Driven by a love for nature, Burt Shavitz and Roxanne Quimby placed environmental responsibility at the forefront of the brand's mission since they founded the company in 1984. As Burt's Bees flourished in the early years, Roxanne channeled their success into preserving Maine's natural beauty. Throughout the 1990s, she used profits to buy and protect vast tracts of land threatened by logging. For every case of balm sold, an acre of land was purchased and saved. By 2016, Roxanne's remarkable efforts resulted in the accumulation of over 87,500 acres, which she then donated to establish Katahdin Woods and Waters National Monument.

“The Camp Burt’s ‘84 merch collection, created by Tavern in partnership with Burt’s Bees and the National Parks Service, celebrates the brand’s role in helping to preserve this national treasure with clothing, accessories, and other gear designed to accompany you on adventures into the great outdoors,” said Mike Perry, Founder and CCO of Tavern.

The limited-edition line features stylish apparel, accessories, and gear inspired by vintage designs from the Burt's Bees archives. The iconic yellow and red chapstick gets reimagined as a reusable water bottle, towel, and hammock. The collection's color palette also draws inspiration from this signature design, with a range of smaller accessories echoing the classic look and heritage of the beloved brand.

Furthering Burt's Bees' commitment to sustainability, the collection introduces new lip balms packaged in eco-friendly 90%+ recycled paper packaging, reducing plastic waste (which can be recycled by sending to TerraCycle). A vintage-inspired t-shirt featuring a retro graphic of Burt riding a motorcycle, unearthed by the Tavern team, pays homage to the brand's founder.

To capture the essence of the collaboration, Tavern photographed the collection at Burt's original cabin and the vibe is pure summer camp and fun-time frolicking through the forest. Drawing inspiration from archival images of Burt collecting wax and honey from his bees, the shoot's art direction evokes a sense of nostalgia and connects fans to the idyllic, yet accessible world that brought Burt and Roxanne together and inspired the Burt's Bees brand.
