Coloroscopio
Some wings are meant to be sported; others are meant to be scarfed down. The internet has been in a flap for years over the striking similarity between two logos: Nike’s iconic Air Jordan ‘Wings’ emblem and the design used by Wingstop. The resemblance has led to a wave of social media gags. While Nike’s logo is firmly tied to basketball legend Michael Jordan and the spirit of athletic flight, Wingstop’s emblem is all about chicken wings. Peter Moore created the original Jordan logo in 1985, drawing inspiration from Jordan’s soaring presence on the court, with wings symbolizing freedom and achievement. Wingstop, meanwhile, embraced a winged design to reflect its fast-food identity—one rooted not in flight but in flavor. The confusion hasn’t gone unnoticed by Wingstop. Embracing the humor, the restaurant chain leaned into the mix-up by teaming up with The Shoe Surgeon in 2022. Together, they created the Lemon Pepper 1s, a pair of sneakers decked out in Wingstop’s signature colors, complete with the restaurant’s logo replacing the Air Jordan branding on the heel. https://www.restaurantbusinessonline.com/marketing/ditch-air-jordans-wingstop-wants-you-sport-some-lemon-pepper-1s https://solesavy.com/the-history-of-the-air-jordan-wings-logo/ https://www.instagram.com/p/DBW6DDBTaHY/ Opening image: Viewimage and Wirestock | Dreamstime.com
