Enter Stage Rite
Spider-Man fans may be swinging away with disappointment as Across the Spider-Verse, a critical darling and Annie Award winner, lost the Best Animated Feature category to Hayao Miyazaki’s The Boy and the Heron at the Oscars. While Across the Spider-Verse was praised for its incredible animation style and story, Studio Ghibli’s The Boy and the Heron resonated with voters for its emotional depth. The film, directed by the legendary Miyazaki, explores themes of grief and healing through the journey of a young boy. Some may see the win as an upset, highlighting the more experimental animation techniques in Spider-Verse. But not producer Chris Miller, who took to X (formerly Twitter) to comment, “If you’re gonna lose, might as well lose to the GOAT [Greatest of All Time].” Apart from the newly minted Academy Award, The Boy and the Heron also secured victories at the Golden Globes and BAFTAs. It also marked Miyazaki’s second Oscar win. https://twitter.com/chrizmillr/status/1766973315313283575 https://www.cnn.com/2024/03/10/entertainment/ryan-gosling-im-just-ken-oscars-2024/index.html https://animost.com/industry-updates/animated-feature-film-nominees-of-the-96th-academy-awards/ https://apnews.com/article/best-animated-film-2024-oscars-346ebe9c9392126031969ff51044a4a2 Image: Sony Pictures Entertainment
