Members Coloroscopio Posted July 1 Members Posted July 1 On July 1, 2024, Apple updated its product support page, reclassifying the iPhone X, first-generation AirPods, and original HomePod as "vintage" devices. This designation applies to products discontinued for over five years but less than seven years. While it might sound like a relic from a bygone era, "vintage" in Apple's world signifies a shift in after-sales service availability. For users of these products, the most immediate impact is on repairs. Apple stores and authorized service providers will still offer repairs for these "vintage" devices, but for a limited time – typically up to two years, subject to parts availability. After that period, servicing these devices may become more challenging, and users might have to rely on third-party repair shops. The move is unsurprising, considering the iPhone X launched in September 2017, followed by the original AirPods in December 2017 and the HomePod in February 2018. Apple is known for streamlining its product lines and prioritizing support for newer devices. This ensures they can allocate resources towards the latest technologies and maintain a focus on the evolving user experience. https://www.macrumors.com/2024/07/01/iphone-x-homepod-and-original-airpods-now-vintage/ https://www.macobserver.com/news/iphone-x-original-homepod-and-airpods-are-now-apple-vintage/ https://support.apple.com/en-us/102772 Image: Mykyta Dolhov | Dreamstime.com Quote
