Enter Stage Rite
Get ready to relive the fairytales (donkeytales?) of Far Far Away! DreamWorks Animation and Universal Pictures have officially confirmed that Shrek 5 is shuffling its way out of the swamp and onto the big screen. This news comes after years of rumors and speculation, fueled most recently by a playful slip from Eddie Murphy himself. The film is set to be released on July 1, 2026, marking the 25th anniversary of the original Shrek which became a global phenomenon and pop culture staple. Perhaps more exciting is the confirmation of the original voice cast. Mike Myers, Cameron Diaz, and Eddie Murphy will all be reprising their iconic roles as Shrek, Fiona, and Donkey, respectively. This is a big win for fans who have grown up with these characters and the franchise’s signature blend of humor, satire, innuendo, and surprisingly heartwarming messages. One can imagine the possibilities. Will we see the return of familiar fairy tale characters? How will parenthood be treating Shrek and Fiona? Perhaps Puss in Boots will finally get his own happily ever after (or maybe just another swashbuckling adventure)? DreamWorks is keeping its cards close to its vest for now, but one thing’s for certain: anticipation for Shrek 5 is sure to ogre-flow the next few years.
