Throuples, quads, and others in love will join The Sims 4 population thanks to the game’s new Lovestruck expansion pack, which lets your characters finally explore the world of polyamory. The long-awaited feature, almost 10 years coming, lets you ditch the “one true love” trope and  create messy, beautiful, complicated relationships that involve more than two beings.

Previously, Sims could only have one romantic partner at a time, which didn’t reflect the experiences of all players. This addition comes after years of requests from a vocal segment of the Sims community who felt the game lacked representation for various relationships.

Setting Boundaries

Playing cupid’s arrow is the new Romantic Boundaries system, where you can choose how your Sims navigate love. This system allows players to define the parameters of their Sims’ romantic relationships. Maybe they're a hopeless romantic who wants to shower everyone with affection, or perhaps they crave a committed triad with all the emotional intimacy. The choice is yours!

Players can choose whether their Sims prefer exclusivity in terms of emotions and physical intimacy, or if they’re open to exploring polyamory. This level of customization aims to reach out to a wider range of player preferences and gameplay styles.

Jealousy Mechanics

But love bites, and even the most pampered Sim can feel a pang of jealousy. The expansion cleverly adds jealousy mechanics, making things a little more dramatic. You can then soothe your avatar’s bruised ego with heartfelt conversations or watch the sparks fly (literally) with the new “death by heartbreak” feature.

More love will be in the air when the Lovestruck pack arrives on July 25, priced at $49.90.
