Is Crowdstrike down?

Crowdstrike, which was behind the global Microsoft server outage on July 19, is itself reportedly down for many users today as well.

 

According to outage tracking service DownDetector, the volume of user reports started surging since around 4:40AM Eastern Time. User comments include "bad news for lots of IT departments this morning" and "hard to push if so many servers are down."

 

Many users have also taken to social media to indicate connectivity issues and quick workarounds.

 

CrowdStrike Holdings, Inc. is an American cybersecurity technology company based in Austin, Texas. It provides cloud workload protection and endpoint security, threat intelligence, and cyberattack response services. Its main product, Falcon, is a cloud-based software built to keep hackers out of your work computer. As of the end of 2023, CrowdStrike reported having 29,000 subscribers worldwide, including more than 580 patrons with deals worth $1m.

 

The company issued an update regarding today's widespread outage on its official website.

CrowdStrike is actively working with customers impacted by a defect found in a single content update for Windows hosts. Mac and Linux hosts are not impacted. This is not a security incident or cyberattack.

 

The issue has been identified, isolated and a fix has been deployed. We refer customers to the support portal for the latest updates and will continue to provide complete and continuous updates on our website.

 

We further recommend organizations ensure they’re communicating with CrowdStrike representatives through official channels.

Our team is fully mobilized to ensure the security and stability of CrowdStrike customers.

 

Its CEO, George Kurtz, has also posted a statement on X, emphasizing "this is not a security incident or cyberattack."
