Community
Image via Seiko Studio Ghibli has joined hands with Japanese watchmaker Seiko to create a thoughtful watch honoring the 1986 feature film, Laputa: Castle in the Sky. And fans will indeed have their heads in the clouds with the collaborative piece’s elegant details, complete with a sweet message by Hayao Miyazaki. The special timepiece, limited to a count of just 1,200 worldwide, features a crown modeled after the iconic Levistone pendant worn by Sheeta. The back showcases a detailed etching of the castle in the sky, along with an incantation engraved in the Laputian language: “Leetay Latuparita Ulus Aria Los Balu Netoreel” (Help me, resurrection of the light). Given its intricacies, it’s a shame that this section will be obscured when worn. Within the delicate foil box that holds the watch is a card with a heartfelt reminder by Miyazaki: “Let’s live without being bound by time.” The timepiece joins Seiko’s premium Presage series, and will be sold around the world from July 23. It comes in at a pretty price of ¥165,000 (US$1,492) in Japan.
