Delta Airlines sells flight tickets to view total solar eclipse up close

The online world is abuzz with the news of Delta Airlines’ unique offering - a special flight for viewing the total solar eclipse. This flight, scheduled for April 8, 2024, is designed to provide passengers with an up-close view of the solar eclipse along the path of totality. The path of totality refers to the specific locations on Earth that fall in the center of the moon’s shadow during an eclipse.

 

Delta’s special flight, numbered 1228, will depart from Austin, Texas, and head towards Detroit, Michigan. The timing of the flight is meticulously planned to give those on board the best chance of safely viewing the solar eclipse at its peak. The one-way flight, priced at $1,129, sold out within hours of the seats going on sale.

 

The aircraft chosen for this flight is an Airbus A220-300, selected in part due to its extra-large windows. These windows will provide passengers with premium viewing of the solar eclipse. This celestial event occurs when the moon passes directly in front of the sun, causing a giant shadow to fall upon parts of Earth.

 

This flight is not just a first for Delta but also a unique opportunity for skywatchers. The April 8 eclipse is the last total eclipse North America will see until 2044. This eclipse will last more than twice as long as the one that occurred in 2017, and the path is nearly twice as wide.
