Spotify has just launched a new $9.99 audiobook subscription service. This move by the music streaming giant is seen as a strategic step to diversify its offerings and cater to the growing interest in audiobooks.

Spotify’s new Audiobook Access Tier offers 15 hours of audiobook listening each month. With a library boasting over 200,000 titles, this service is aimed at those who value audiobooks more than music or podcasts1. Interestingly, this plan is a dollar cheaper than Spotify Premium, which includes ad-free music.

The launch of this service comes after Spotify noticed a 45% daily uptick in interest in audiobooks from free users. This suggests a growing trend towards audiobook consumption, and Spotify’s new service aims to capitalize on this trend.

However, the Audiobook Access Tier has sparked a debate among users. While it offers a 15-hour monthly limit, it doesn’t include ad-free music. This has led to comparisons with Audible, Amazon’s audiobook service. Unlike Audible, which uses a credit system, Spotify allows users to listen to any audiobook they want for a monthly fee.

In conclusion, Spotify’s new audiobooks-only subscription is a bold move to tap into the growing audiobook market. It’s a clear indication of the company’s intent to diversify its offerings and cater to a wider audience. But the question remains: will this new service be a game-changer in the audiobook industry? What are your thoughts on this? Do you think Spotify’s new service will give Audible a run for its money?
