Virgin’s founder Richard Branson shows up on Delta flight, surprises all passengers with free cruise vacation

Holiday-makers are buzzing with the news of billionaire Sir Richard Branson’s latest surprise. The founder of the Virgin Group boarded a Delta flight from Atlanta to San Juan, stunning over 190 travelers with a free cruise aboard his newest ship, the Resilient Lady.

 

The surprise was part of a celebration marking the unveiling of Resilient Lady’s new homeport in San Juan later this year. The ship, named the “Best New Cruise Ship” in Cruise Critic’s 2023 Editors’ Picks Awards, has several beautiful Caribbean itineraries taking flight this December.

 

The event was not just about the surprise cruise giveaway. Virgin Voyages hosted a full departure gate takeover at Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport. Passengers were treated to original choreography from Virgin Voyages’ award-winning entertainment team, Instagrammable photo moments, specialty drinks, and music.

In addition to the surprise cruise, Branson and Delta’s S.V.P. and Chief Communications Officer, Tim Mapes, hosted a generous game of roulette. Customers and passersby were invited to spin the wheel of prizes, which included Delta and Virgin Atlantic flights, Virgin Hotel stays, a Virgin Voyages cruise, Delta Vacations package, gift cards, and high-end swag.
