Trendingger
Renault 5, the EV edition of a classic supermini car, has already amassed a staggering 50,000 orders on its waitlist. This retro-inspired vehicle, built in Northern France, is Renault’s first all-new small EV since the famous Zoe hit the scene in 2014. The Renault 5’s popularity can be attributed to its competitive pricing and impressive features. With a starting price of €25,000, about $27,130, it is thousands of euros cheaper than most competitors. The Renault 5 will be available in three different electric motor configurations, offering 70 kW, 90 kW, or 110 kW of power. Its max battery size of 52 kWh will deliver a WLTP range of up to 400 km (249 miles), and it can even tow a trailer with a capacity of up to 500kg. Renault brand CEO Fabrice Cambolive has expressed optimism about the Renault 5’s prospects, stating that 40% of Renault 5 sales are expected to be fleet. Orders will open in May, and deliveries are set to start in September or October. The Renault 5’s debut at the Geneva Motor Show and its subsequent online trend highlight the growing interest in EVs and the potential they hold for transforming the automotive industry. As more consumers prioritize sustainability and seek out affordable yet high-performing EVs, the Renault 5 seems poised to meet these demands.
