Your laptop would seem like unnecessary bulk next to this truly pocket-friendly, fully functional wireless keyboard. Created by YouTuber Flurples, it fits neatly inside an Altoids tin and looks kind of like a pack of tiny peppermints.

The minty-fresh invention, called the Mint Board, transforms the familiar rectangular tin into a mini typing powerhouse. Equipped with a USB-C port and tiny but mighty micro switches, it offers a tactile typing experience reminiscent of the classic BlackBerry phones.

Despite its miniature size, the keyboard connects wirelessly to any Bluetooth-enabled device, making it a versatile companion for on-the-go typing needs. It even charges via USB-C.

While space is tight, the Mint Board boasts a surprisingly practical layout. Originally envisioned as a 60% keyboard (meaning it includes 60% of the keys found on a standard keyboard), Flurples cleverly adapted the design to a 40% layout. This configuration retains essential QWERTY keys and special functions, excluding the number row, maximizing functionality within the limited space. The design even incorporates a custom-made PCB (printed circuit board) to house all the necessary components, including switches, diodes, a microcontroller, and even an on/off switch.

Building the Mint Board was no easy feat. Flurples painstakingly hand-soldered each component, from the microcontroller to the battery. However, unforeseen hiccups, like tight keycaps, necessitated a revamp. To overcome this hurdle and add a personal touch, Flurples 3D-printed both the keycaps and the outer shell of the Altoids tin.
